Week of April 19

Monday-We are brainstorming ideas for our technology presentation. We are looking forward to presenting what we do in the classroom! In math we added fractions to equal one-whole. We also played fraction war. It was very fun! Mrs. Andrews class came in to watch the Smilebox we created with them. They really enjoyed it! We started a new read aloud book called Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen. So far it is very good!
Tuesday-We did a book-jacket write on My Secret Bully by Trudy Ludwig. After writing our pieces, we realized that telling a teacher is important when you are being bullied. In math we compared our main dishes that we ate the night before using bar graphs. A lot of people chose "other" than the chicken, beef, pasta or tofu. It was also t-shirt day for our school spirit week! Fourth graders wore the color orange.
Wednesday-In the morning we created another bar graph to compare our data to yesterday. We noticed that "other" and "pasta" were both the mode. After, we went outside for Jump Rope For Heart. We jumped 40 minutes straight! We had music in the afternoon to practice our songs for the concert.
Thursday-In the morning we had an Earth Day special issue of Weekly Reader. We learned different ways to protect the Earth. It was crazy hair day and we saw a lot of great hairdos!
Friday-In the morning we read Weekly Reader and look forward to discussing the articles later today. We will also watch the movie Johnny Tremain and talk about the history and how that effected our state. We can't wait to watch it! This afternoon we will go out and play with our K-Buddies! It will be fun!

Have a nice vacation!

Week of April 16

Monday: We got a great new book called The Way To Go! The book was donated to our school by Washburn's Autobody in Williston. It's about making good choices. We are creating a bulletin board with our reflections. In math we practiced adding fractions. Isabel and Bliss were this week's K-Readers and read the book More Parts by Tedd Arnold. The kindergartners really enjoyed it! In reader's workshop we had a fun time sharing our literature circle books. We made bread crumbs...attempting to make bread. We all enjoyed tasting what is "close" to bread.

Tuesday: Today in art we chose the piece we would like to go in the art show. We had a mystery person bring in cheese for Eleanor's presentation. We heard all of the photo stories and books. They were all very interesting. We reviewed homework on fractions and that was very helpful.

Wednesday: We rehearsed all the songs we will sing in the concert. Wyatt and Lukas shared an awesome game to help us with fractions called Guide the Gecko. Today in writer's workshop, we had four main groups. The groups were comics, The Way To Go, Science and Wax Museum. Did you know that an 100ML ice cube and water have almost the same exact mass?

Thursday: Visiting author, Tracy Campbell Pearson spoke with us in the music room. Did you know that she was born in 1956? Her cat is named Zuloo? We made a Jing for Mrs. Soule about fun fraction sites we like. We played a game called Frosty Fractions-we had a blast!

Friday: Another successful day of bread making! YEAH!!! Finally!! We made another Jing for Mrs. Andrews so she can make photo stories with her students. In reading workshop we read Weekly Reader. We will discuss the articles this afternoon. Half of our class will be dancing with Ms. Duplissa this afternoon. We can't wait!

Check out our photo story!!

the week of April 5 th

On Monday today in pod we did a problem using the work back words strategy. Also on Monday we started our fractions unit in math it is lots of fun. In reading we continued literature circles. In science we are learning about matter. We watched a video on the states of matter and their properties. After, we did a what is it? game and described the objects (using their properties) to guess.

On Tuesday we reviewed our addition and subtraction math test. We also discussed our literature circle books. In writing we continued to work on our VT economy pieces due on Friday. In read aloud we are reading The Time Travelers in the Gideon Trilogy. It seems like everyone likes this adventurous story!

Reviewing double-digit multiplication strategies.

On Wednesday we continued to work on fractions using an array who's dimensions were 5x12. Our group had a great discussion on the book Captive of Pitsford Ridge by Janice Oveka. In music group 2 started composition. Those of us in the classroom are doing algebra.

Dividing an array into fractional parts.

On Thursday we started adding fractions together. It was hard to get at first, but it got easier. We will present our finished pieces for Vermont on Friday to Mrs. Randall and to our class and K-buddies next week.

On Friday we helped out our k-buddies in the library as they researched an animal. We are looking forward to the rest of the day and the weekend! We have finally made bread...hope it goes well! :)

C-ya! Bye!

Thursday: we voted for our red clover books in library. I hope the book I voted for wins.

Friday: Wyatt's dad came in to show the pictures they took while on their Africa trip. Next week's bloggers will share Flip Clips of the Africa presentation! We had guidance and did our presentation on the product that our group made and the class would vote if they wanted to by it and Mr. Lane would add up all the hands and tell the group how much money they earned.

Thanks!
