the week of the 31st

Mrs. Graf reading to us

Monday: Mrs.Graf read OWNY THE MAIL POUCH POOCH to us. It was about a dog that helped the US Postal Service over the years. The dog will be visiting another school after each classroom has heard his story. We also watched a movie called Justin Morgan Had a Horse and there is a literature circle group reading this book.

Tuesday: We started making our VT Economy books and our group is working well gathering pictures and facts for our book. We look forward to sharing the book with our class! In Spanish today, we had a test about what to call grown-ups and your friends.

Wednesday: In math we had an assessment that everyone seemed to do well on! We look forward to starting fractions. We got our book orders! Some of us got many books! I can't wait to read mine! In music we learned a new song on the recorder called Chinese Song. We also have composition, which is very fun! We get to make our own songs using a program on the lap tops.

Thursday: We had a 1/2 day today! We walked to the post office to mail out our letters to our state representatives. We look forward to hearing back from them! At the end of the day, we did a science investigation that was very fun! We wanted to find out what the temperature was for an ice cube as it melts.

Walking to the post office.

Handing the envelope to the post master.

Having fun infront of the post office!

Friday: Today we had another 1/2 day! (conferences) We met with our literature circles and discussed what was happening in our books. We have learned many new words! My group is reading Cave of Falling Waters. It is about an Indian girl who is trying to survive a time period where illness is usually fatal. At the end of the day we discussed what we had learned about our science investigation and put our data into a line graph. We had fun doing Brain Builders at the end of the day!

Sharing evidence from the text in literature circles.

Our groups work well discussing!

Hope you had fun reading our Blog!

Week Of 3/15/10

Monday

Today we had a P.O.D (Problem Of The Day) On a big fish tank. After that we had P.E and played hockey and played a fun game. After P.E we wrote a writing prompt on the book "The Sandman" Then we shared some of them during authors chair. We used the Mimio a lot today. Also today we started to make books about a book using the same authors craft as the book "The Bee Man".

We used the Mimio to take notes.

We are creating story boards to plan our VT economy stories.

A story board up close!

Tuesday

We had art this morning and made clay faces of us. We also made our persuasive writing piece to the VT legislators and we'll be finishing them on Friday. Shortly after that Ms.Lee came in and we got to see her kids. Then we had Spanish and finished our web scavenger hunts.

Wednesday

We had a P.O.D this morning about a secret number and it was 315. Then we went to music and played recorders, then we came back to review our math homework on division stories, then we went out to recess at 12:20 and when we came back in there was no power. Because of that we had a lot of twists in our afternoon. Half the class also goes to composition in the music room, since there was no power, we couldn't use computers so we did some fun worksheets.

Thursday

In the morning we had outdoor hockey. It was also Alexis's B-day! Our read aloud book is getting more suspenseful with every chapter! In the afternoon we had Library and then pack up dismissal.

Friday
At 9:15 we had Guidance and started to work on commercializing our items that we made up. Our persuasive letters are due today! A lot of people are working on finishing up today we have our last day of word study in the same classes.

Have a nice weekend,
Isabel and Nate

Sugar House Trip

We had a fun time going to the sugar house in Johnson, Vermont! We interviewed one of the sugar-makers, Deb. We found out that she taps at least 500 trees each year. They sell their maple syrup to friends and family from their sugar house. They don't advertise, but they make a good living doing this each spring.
