The last weeks of school

Math-We've done quick images! We were trying to find the volume of different buildings. It was awesome! We also reviewed strategies on how to find the volume and took the assessment. Another fun things was playing math games from our class web page. One of the games was called "X Detectives". First you have to drive around in a car and choose from a lot of different math games to play. Each time it gets harder. We also played a game called "Point of View". In this game, you had to use different points of view to figure out what the character saw (of a building). We finished an end of year math test! Some of the problems were challenging, but we did well! We all have something to work on over the summer!
Reader's Workshop-We finished Woods Runner by Gary Paulsen! It was a very exciting book-it takes place in 1776. We had Popsicles during read aloud (it was very hot that day) because we turned in all our books to the library. We wrote letters to our buddies about our books and they wrote back to us. We learned about the summer reading programs at the local libraries. We also finished our DRA assessments to see how we've improved as readers.
Writer's Workshop-We wrote reports on our important person to our state. We also completed posters, power points, brochures and great speeches! We shared well-written paragraphs to help inspire other writers.
Social Studies-We had a very successful wax museum, Mrs. Randall said we were one of the best! We learned a lot from each other who made an impact on our state. Some of the people were; Ira Allen, Seth Warner, Col Will Roy and Clarina Nichols. We Skyped Col Will Roy in Afghanistan and Madeleine Kunin in Burlington. It was fun!
Science- We made food webs to see how different organism connects in the food chain. We took a fun field trip to Preston Pond for a hike and to explore the environment. We had a our last ELF lesson at the beaver pond and observed many cool organisms! We picked partners that had dependent organisms. Together we researched them and created field guides. Some people made power points (which will be on our class web site) or did a paper format (which was put together as a class book). After, we wrote a letter to the conservation commission (Mrs. Gilbert) to protect our organism's habitat. We also got into science groups to conduct a properties of matter investigation. We wanted to see what would melt faster; a plan ice cube, one with salt and one with sand. We noticed that the salt worked best.
